Playing Resumé:
Alan began playing euphonium at the age of 8 under the tutelage of Jim McCafferty. He was a founder member of Livingston Brass in 1976, at which time he moved onto tenor horn. He moved to CWS (Glasgow) in 1992, touring Australia and New Zealand in 1993. Alan has won the Scottish Championships at every level, as well as the National youth Championships of Great Britain in 1985 with West Lothian Schools Brass Band.  One of his proudest achievements was playing ‘4th horn’ with Black Dyke Band in Edward Gregson’s Age of Kings at prestigious concerts, including in the Royal Albert Hall, the European Championships and the James Morrison Concert in Bridgewater Hall.
Alan joined Whitburn in April 2006.

For the last 7 years, Alan has worked in the music industry in sales management positions with Normans, Besson Musical Instruments and Band Supplies. His current role of Development Officer for the Scottish Brass Band Association allows him to share his passion for brass bands by encouraging youngsters to join the banding fraternity.
