Laura started playing cornet at the age of 6 in the Salvation Army. Taking a break from playing while she had four children, she took up the cornet again when her eldest son started playing at the age 7.

In 2009, Laura was elected chairperson of Whitburn Youth Band and remains in this role.

In the time Laura has been in this role the youth band has grown from five members to 27, competed twice in the Scottish Youth Brass Band Championships and earlier this year in the British Youth Brass Band Championships.

As well as her role in the youth band Laura is also on the logistics team for the Whitburn Band and tutor for the youth band.

Laura joined the percussion section of Whitburn Band for the Grand Shield contest in 2012 and has remained in the section. Laura enjoys all her roles in the organisation and is looking forward for what the future will bring.

Chris Yule

Chris joined Whitburn in 2008 when he moved to Edinburgh, having known many of the players through his association with the National Youth Brass Band of Scotland.

Having grown up in Aberdeen and playing with Bon Accord Silver Band for a number of years, Chris spent three years in London playing with Aveley & Newham band before finally settling in Edinburgh.

As well as becoming Vice President of the band in 2010, Chris topped off a busy period by being voted Whitburn Band Player of the Year in 2012.
